The article provides a historical perspective on recent financial
disasters ranging from the late 1990s Internet bubble to the
current credit crunch and the inability of the U.S. financial
system to deal with them. The author cites several commentators
who view these events as catalysts for new research. The
latter, however, focuses only on the negative, on the economic
consequences of black swan events, and on the need to learn from
them. The paper ignores the other side of the coin, that of the
black swans which have a positive impact on the economy. Black
swans also provide an opportunity to use such knowledge to
reduce the probability of a catastrophe of the scale of the
recent catastrophes. The article provides a useful overview of
disasters, the role of business in mitigating them and the
research opportunities they offer. The author concludes:
As this extract makes clear, Black Swans have no specific timing. However, all large organisations, and especially those that have a 'business riskmanagement' function, should have a Black Swan Working Group. This will inturn be composed of people from across the business, and it will actas a cross-functional 'risk team', and will play a key role in monitoringrisks. This group should be, at a minimum, broad enough to cover the keyareas of responsibility for that business, such as sales, marketing, HR,procurement, legal, IT, and finance. The group also needs to have somerepresentation from 'insiders' (that is, to some extent, 'outsiders') andfrom the board.
If another hacker does this, then they will be able to put any game on the ps3 in a matter of minutes! and that means that Sony will be out of the console market for good. We have seen what happens when sony doesn't support games anymore. Nintendo is turning a profit, now it is time for Sony to do the same, or else they are dead.
I don't see the appeal of owning a Sony PS3, and I don't see the value of the PS3 as an entertainment device. Sony has become one of the most untrustworthy companies in the gaming industry in my eyes. 827ec27edc
